How to get to the city

By public transport
The fastest and most convenient way to get from Riga is a commuter train. Electric trains in the direction of Ogre, Aizkraukle or Krustpils depart from Riga Central Station almost every 20–40 minutes.
From the end of the 19th century and during the interwar period, Ogre was the most famous holiday and health center in Latvia. The intelligentsia came here from the capital for clean pine air, a mild microclimate and swimming in rivers. As a legacy from its heyday, the city inherited a unique array of wooden dacha architecture with carved verandas, located in a quiet forest area.

What to see

Natural Park "Blue Mountains"
A huge natural park, which is a hilly ridge covered with majestic coniferous forest. There are many trails for hiking and cycling, and in winter there are excellent cross-country ski trails. The main pearl of the park is a 30-meter observation tower, from the top of which in clear weather you can even see the silhouettes of Riga, and the cleanest forest lake Dubukalnu, equipped with places for recreation.
Pedestrian street Brivibas
The central promenade of Ogre, along which the historical wooden resort buildings of the late 19th - early 20th centuries have been preserved. The street is very cozy, green, decorated with floral installations and fountains. Walking along it, you can feel the spirit of the old wooden Ogre and look into the local craft shops.
Pedestrian bridge over the Ogre River
A unique arched bridge built in the 1960s that connects the city center with a park area on the other side. This is one of the main symbols of the city and a popular place for photographs. The bridge offers a picturesque view of the calm flow of the Ogre River and its green banks.
The main natural pride of the city is the Ogres Zilie kalni nature park. This is a sandy ridge, overgrown with healing pine forest. In summer, there are kilometers of walking and cycling routes, an observation tower with a panoramic view of the surrounding forests and bends of the Daugava, and in winter the park turns into one of the main cross-country skiing centers in central Latvia.
In recent years, Ogre has earned the reputation of the most beautifully decorated city in Latvia in the winter-autumn period. Every winter, the city turns into a fairy tale thanks to large-scale light installations, giant illuminated carriages, carousels and festive illuminations on pedestrian streets and parks, attracting guests from all over the country.
